Notes :In DEDR the form aralu is placed next to allu id., as if *aralu > *arlu > allu. In reality, the form allu has nothing whatsoever to do with aralu, being regularly descended from PDR *al- 'to weave, intertwine'. The only known parallel for aralu, then, is Tam. aril 'interlacing as of bamboo stalks growing together'.

Proto-Telugu :*araṇa-
Meaning :a gift of money to a daughter and son-in-law at the time of marriage
Notes :A local root, with parallels only in Gondi (see PG *arti), although the authors of DEDR suspect that the Gondi forms are borrowed from Telugu. An outside source probably has to be located.
Additional forms :Also aruvu to pay as taxes; n. a loan of grain, etc., purchase or sale on credit; accu to be in debt, owe, incur or suffer loss; accu-konu to pay, pay what one is not bound to pay; accu-dala debt; accika deficiency, want, defect; appu loan
Notes :Tel. ari and aruvu are the old forms; accu and its derivatives are most probably borrowings from Kannaḍa.
Additional forms :Also aḍiy-āsa vain hopes; aḍuva, (coll.) aḍava old, damaged (as goods); ḍappi destruction, ruin; (inscr.) ṛassi infringing; aṛisina which destroys; aṛipuṭa n. causing destruction
Notes :Since the exact conditions of aphaeresis in Telugu are unknown, it is reasonable to suggest that all of the forms here stem from the same source (although it is also possible that extra borrowings from Kannaḍa are involved).
